My Realtor is not like this! He is bound by law and follows it. This video give Realtors a bad name. The advice given is inaccurate and dangerous. Realtor provide a crucial role in the transaction and actually limit liability for the consumer.
My recommendation when choosing a real estate agent is to follow you instincts. Select someone you feel you can trust.
With regards to leaving your house on the market for longer is very misguided to say the least.

    Wow this video is ridiculous.

So now every broker is a con out for a buck. Perhaps before my time but I dont know of one that can stay in business now adays. Trust me Realtors are simply an agent of you. An extension of your wants and desires put into action with the knowhow of how to get it done, correctly, the first time.

You’re a joke Beingreal40. Tell me how anything mentioned in this video leads to destroying lives.

This video is entertaining, and has some good information mixed in with the general sensational doo doo. Basically it paints brokers as con-men and women which isn’t true. Many are just lazy and part of an antiquated system.

Let’s break it down. The price hold out advice is crap. What you think your home is worth doesn’t mean anything, it’s what the market for your home is.

You can sell your self, but prepare for a pain in the ass.

All other points are somewhat valid. enjoy.

And those fuckers can destroy lives faster than they are put togehter.

They are called professionals for a reason. The right agent can make all the difference, and perform many services that the average person cannot do for themselves.

some brokers are reallllly unethical… believe me.

is this a parody? Too funny!
  9. Beingreal40 on September 18th, 2009 8:27 pm
Thank You. That’s the kind of attitude you can expect from a realtor.

go roll yourself a fatty and keep fearing all professionals!

It does’nt take brain surgery to sell your home. The only downfall is posting on MLS and dealing with realtors harassing you to change you mind. A wealthy person would just feel not to be burden by the whole transaction . Not because potential of lawsuits. No I would’nt cut my own hair. Since there is no realestate market at the time realtors are already cutting my hair and pouring me a beer. That’s their true qualifications.
  12. secretmachine311 on September 18th, 2009 8:27 pm
do you cut your own hair too? would you go bargain hunting for a potential surgery? yet when it comes to selling a house, all the experts with no experience come out. have you ever noticed a wealthy person with a FSBO sign in front of their house? it’s not because they can afford a commission it’s because their way of thinking is that there are specialists in areas they don’t know enough about. just the paperwork alone can get you in a big fat lawsuit doing it yourself. good luck!!!

Nice video. Another piece of advice: go with a broker you know and trust. We did - we knew her long through our community and local journalistic work (for years) before we hired her. She made no bones about telling us the truth. We bought, and were happy (and happy to help her out with a commission even though she was working outside her normal area).

    Thank you for being professional.
I was sadden to see the negative in this ad. You had the most logical comeback. I respect that.

Yes agents and lenders are going to attack my comment.

Agents wont lower their commision. They’ll say their broker wont allow them.

It’s way better to have your bank reject your loan than dealing with a broker that will seek out any program just make them money.

Real estate agents justify there hard work between Oprah commercials.

Lenders justify there hard work between long lunches.

There’s nothing they can do that you can’t!

It’s your money. It’s your life. It’s your note!

If this video was added in 2005 then I’d say there was more validity to the presented points. Currently its takes a lot of work to get a home sold. In most markets the time on market is 10 months. Comps are what properties sold for in the last six months however in some markets prices have come down 10 - 15% in the same time. Overpricing your home so it stays on the market longer probably guarantees that your home won’t sell at all. This video is no appropriate in most markets in 2009.

Hahaha, he looks SOOOOOO skeptical the whole time.
  18. kbumtube on September 18th, 2009 8:27 pm
Wow! That makes true professionals look bad. Step 1 It’s true one should do their homework…however agents don’t set the price…the market does. Step 2. Agents don’t keep their home on the market longer….they know that will only yield a lower price in the long run. Step 4. An agent is legally required to “present all offers” Step 7. This can be done…but usually yields lower prices, more frustration, and increased need for dispute resolution.

A good agent can do a lot for you, but it does pay to know as much as you can.
Read, learn, and know before you go.
It is money in YOUR bank!

I am an agent in Los Angeles and I think this video is somewhat awesome, buyers and sellers should always be as informed as possible but if you do want top dollar for you home or find the right home with some help you need to see an experienced Realtor, anyone can get a license but not anyone can actually do the right job.

Nice Vid. I enjoyed it. We market properties and other things on youtube, we hope to create a large network of people interested in making money. Your video gets a five star rating from us. I hope you feel the same about ours.

Look at all the agents all scared about the truth! 80% of them aren’t qualified to work at Lowes let alone be involved in a transaction of thousands of dollars. Buyers and sellers get out there and do your research don’t ever just listen to an agent. The 80% are overpaid and desperately want to protect that commission based on the percentage of the property. It makes no sense. $300,000 or $3,000,000 same work. Don’t lose money to an agent find a new internet based company they are better.
  23. daknocom on September 18th, 2009 8:27 pm
I know a real estate agent who actually put this video on their real estate blog! Classic.

I don’t think you will hear much complaints about the open house “tip.” Most agents hate those things!

  24. RonLeeHackett on September 18th, 2009 8:27 pm
Wow who would believe such crap, it doesn’t mean that there isn’t a dishonest agent but I think that who ever mad this video doesn’t know the difference and doesn’t know the regulatory oversight as well ads “The Realtor Code of Ethics”
  25. MrLesWhite on September 18th, 2009 8:27 pm
Please don’t listen to this! I would advise as in any major purchase/transaction to find a reputable company and an experienced broker if you know ABSOLUTELY nothing, and of course do your own research it will save your broker time trying to convince you. More than likely you know someone who is a broker, so work with them. Real Estate brokers are human and there are unethical ones but most are honest, this is a parody. Paying the inspection guy is something to look out for? Please get serious!!

Got something to say?
